A network is really useful since we are in a corporatist country ('grand corps', importance of diplomas, etc.) and in a region where information and job opennings mainly circulate through networks.
PhDs have naturally an open mind toward other fields, a taste for new questions and are used to share points of views. Is it useful to recall the unicity principle of doctorate, whatever its discipline is? Finally, it seems important to gather Ph.Ds with diverse career paths whose identification and highlighting will enhance their value.
We are a small group of Ph.Ds working locally that widens with arrival of good wills.
It is a list for information and discussions between its members: announcements of the events of CFD Marseille and of other manifestations dealing with Ph.D in PACA, polls to determine the dates of the next Afterworks, discussions about future projects that we can be organized, informations from other members, job opportunities, etc.
Yes, and you are welcomed to suggest anything during the Afterworks and/or via the CFD Marseille mailing list.
Depending of his state of mind and his inspiration, a participant discusses with other participants. It is unlikely that you'll spend the entire evening with the same people. Each Afterwork is an opportunity to meet new persons and, as we hope for you, make new discoveries.
Of course, there is always something to eat, most likely where the Afterwork takes place, or at least close by.
The exact place is given by email few days before the event to the people who have registered. This is a way for us to select a spot with the right amount of place and to make a reservation.
The selected spot is chosen to be easy to reach by all transportation means: proximity of a parking lot, of the metro, etc.
It starts early evening, usually around a glass and goes on with a meal. Arriving and leaving time is absolutely free and it is thus possible to come only for a drink or for the diner. This allows everyone to do as he likes: start early to benefit the most of the exchanges, or arrive later and enjoy the food.
Yes! Even if most of the CFD communication is done in French, Afterworks are multi-cultural, and some participants will be happy to speak english - and French skills of non-francophones could maybe increase...
